Unpacking the Research and Writing Process: Essential Skills for Academic Success
Why this Workshop?
Within this structured program, participants will learn essential executive strategies for enhancing their research, critical analysis, and writing skills for future academic success.
Over the course of two Saturdays (10 hours), students will learn how to research and synthesize information from multiple sources on major historical topics, as well as address critical steps involved in planning and composing an evidence-rich research paper appropriate for their current grade level. Upon completion of the course, students will have gained actionable research skills, tools and templates for managing long-term assignments, and strategies for writing compelling, cohesive essays.
Key Learning Objectives
Expand and practice critical reading techniques
Synthesize information from multiple sources
Develop and refine executive skill strategies including annotation, note taking, and outlining
Learn a comprehensive framework for building an effective research paper
Students will leave the workshop with the following materials
· Study skills research binder with checklists, templates, and rubrics that can be applied to a variety of school assignments
· Access to additional digital resources including tutorial videos through the remainder of the school year.
