Why This Workshop
Math is a progressive and complex process that involves the layering of skills to be successful in the classroom. Understanding the Math Rope (National Research Council, 2001) is key to making high-leverage instructional decisions. By participating in this workshop, educators will gain practical knowledge and teaching strategies to meet the needs of all math learners.
Key Learning Objectives:
Identify and define the components of the math rope: conceptual knowledge, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and productive disposition
Understand how the five strands of the math rope work together to develop math proficiency
Learn the most effective ways to support each strand of the math rope in your classroom
Engage with student case studies to analyze and determine implications for instruction
