Why This Workshop
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) emphasize the importance of analyzing and evaluating information from multiple media formats. Integrating multimedia sources—such as podcasts, videos, infographics, photographs, and primary sources—can increase engagement, enhance comprehension of complex texts, and develop critical thinking skills. This workshop will provide practical, research-based strategies to move beyond passive media consumption and leverage multimedia sources to strengthen literacy skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—while fostering discussion and sharpening analytical thinking.
Key Learning Objectives
· Discover how multimedia enhances engagement, motivation, and deeper learning by providing multiple ways to access and interact with complex content.
· Learn how to select high-quality multimedia sources and apply a planning checklist to integrate them effectively into instruction.
· Explore strategies and activities for incorporating podcasts, sound clips, video segments, infographics, photographs, and primary sources to build reading, writing, and oral language skills across content areas.
